Carlsen Survives Wild Race at Dillon, Prepares for Return Home

Cornelius, NC ~ Andrew Carlsen has been the brightest shining Melling Select Rookie of the Year candidate so far this season in every UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Car series race, but unfortunately his finishes don't show it.

Carlsen has been a qualifying machine, putting his car inside the top ten on several occasions and in the top fifteen in every race since the season opening event at Concord. Carlsen and his Chase Pistone Racing Team brought their 131-MAIN, Hangers Cleaners, OldWestGunSmith.com Ford Fusion to Dillon, SC for the Wallace Industrial 150 at the newest track on the series schedule. Pistone had the car tuned just right and Carlsen immediately hit the track turning times as fast as the veteran drivers, who have many laps on this track.

Carlsen then went out in qualifying and only posted the 22nd fastest of the 27 cars at Dillon, but Carlsen was ready to race through the pack on the tight 4/10 mile track in eastern South Carolina. Carlsen got up on the wheel when the green flag flew and found he had a great car for the long haul. He drove up inside the top fifteen and then inside the top ten and into seventh position when he got involved in a huge crash that nearly blocked the entire track with five laps to go.

His car was beaten and battered with a cut left rear tire after losing a lap when the leaders caught up to the crash and tried to make their way through an almost blocked track in turn four. After being caught a lap down the team made repairs to the car and Carlsen went back out and in a green, white, checkered finish managed to post an 11th place finish.

"The car was good tonight, I hate we got caught up in that deal there at the end, but it happens and I know we'll be strong when we head to Hickory for the next race," said Carlsen.

Carlsen and his 131-MAIN Restaurant team will head back home to the Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, NC on Saturday, June 14th for the Bad Boy Mowers 150, a track where Carlsen has won at and should be a very strong contender for the win.

"I'm excited about going back to Hickory, I've had a lot of laps and a lot of success there and we should be in the thick of things when we unload on Saturday morning."
